Epic Games Partnership Will Allow Betting in Cryptocurrency on Fortnite Matches

Epic Games Fornite has over 250 million players worldwide. Its updated version was released recently. Fortnite is a free-to-play game, but users have to pay for in-game accessories and other perks. Through these microtransactions, Epic earned $2.4 billion in 2018. Epic has still not allowed cryptocurrency for in-game transactions, but digital money is slowly making inroads into the Fortnite ecosystem.

Various other platforms already allow the use of cryptocurrency for gaming and gambling like the Plinko Game by mintdice.

Fortnite is one of the fastest-growing esports in the world. Unikrn, a popular esports betting site, allows users to bet its cryptocurrency token UnikoinGold on Fortnite matches. They can bet the token on their in-house challenges. Until recently, Unikrn was allowing betting in cryptocurrency on only high-level esports tournaments. The company has unveiled a new feature in which users can bet on streamers on live streaming platforms like Twitch. Unikrn will have to enter into contracts with gamers who live stream on Twitch.

Rahul Sood, CEO of Unikrn, said that users could access live streaming games on Twitch and place different bets on in-game outcomes.

The platform will follow the game along with the user to determine the outcome. Epic will also maintain a log of the streamer’s game and the bets placed.

Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, Litecoin, and Dash can buy Fortnites premium in-game cryptocurrency V-bucks, via third-party service. The user has to choose which game he wants to play, and he will receive a gift card code for the third-party service. On entering that code, he will get a certain amount of V-bucks, which he can use for making in-house purchases like buying weapons, costumes, etc.

In May, Epic Games entered into a partnership blockchain-based game distribution platform, The Abyss. Developers can access Epic’s Unreal Developers Network via Abyss and can use Abyss token for a game and in-game purchases.

Thus, cryptocurrency has already entered many facets of Fortnites matches like betting, buying crypto, and rewarding developers. It seems like just a matter of time before it is also allowed for in-game purchases. Nowadays, there are many websites & gaming platforms that provide Free Bitcoin Faucets.
