Ledger Unveiled Bluetooth Enabled Hardware Crypto Wallet

The crypto wallet company ‘Ledger’ unveiled its latest hardware wallet enabled with Bluetooth, dubbed as the Ledger Nano X. It was displayed at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2019 conference in Las Vegas. Furthermore, the firm also introduced a full-fledged mobile app (named Ledger Live) which is all set to go live on Jan. 28, which will enable its users to manage their transactions and check the balance via mobile phones. The app will be available for both Android and iOS users

1. The Ledger Nano X wallet will enable users to send and receive tokens from their phone.
2. The Bluetooth feature allows users to access the wallet remotely using mobile phones
3. Nano X holds much more memory

The device is somewhat similar to previous Nano S which required the user to plug in with a computer through a micro USB cable. In the late November, Ledger Nano S started to support altcoin Monero (XMR). The new wallet updated with Bluetooth feature is user-friendly, and it aims to store as well as use cryptocurrencies with much more security. Ledger Nano X is potential enough to store 100 crypto assets, unlike Nano S which can hold 18 cryptocurrencies. Bluetooth feature moved the users to mobile computing who were limited to use a laptop and desktop while using Ledger Nano S wallet.

Ledger CEO Eric Larchevêque commented during product live demonstration:

“There have been a lot of requests from our users to have a native application […] the fact that we have a mobile application and it works with the Nano X is the big evolution of the hardware for this lineup.” He also outlined that apart from Bluetooth & additional memory, mobility-enabled via Ledger Live App is the most distinguished feature of hardware wallet.

Larchevêque added: “[For the Nano S], depending on the app, you can have from five to ten to fifteen wallets, but if you have a lot of cryptos, you need to install and reinstall these to manage coins — it’s a lot of work. Now, with the Nano X, you have much more memory, and you can have up to 100 applications at one time.” Its large screen and migration buttons facilitate easier navigation.

The added feature of Ledger Nano X is that its vulnerabilities are not critical which means even if hackers get access to the mobile phone, the assets will be far from their reach. The hardware-level PIN protections will mitigate the risk, and therefore Nano X will only respond to devices running the corresponding Ledger app with security features to preserve authenticity. Nano X which costs around $119, is now available for pre-order for shipment in March.
